No Increase in Air Pollutants

More power, less pollution
Cutting edge technology makes it possible

"We only allow out what is fit to be out" is already the slogan of the Staudinger power plant. The flue gases that are created when coal is combusted undergo an exhaustive purification process. In three stages the nitrogen, then the dust and finally the sulfur are removed from the gases.
The new power plant will be outfitted with the latest flue gas purification technology. As the new filter units will work much better than the present ones, we will in future be able to produce much more power than in the past without any increase in the amount of pollutants released, such as dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide. On the contrary: after commissioning, the Staudinger power plant's block 6 will in fact release a lower level of air pollution into the environment than at the present time. We are far below the limits established by law.

Binding assurance

We set the following assurance down in writing in the application for approval of block 6: that the total emission of dust, sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide affecting the region will be lower in future than in past years. This voluntary undertaking has a binding effect for us.

What exactly are the numbers?

We have given the assurance that after block 6 is taken into service fewer pollutants will be released into the air than on average of the years 1996-2006. To be more specific: the current average emission quantities of 221 tons of dust, 1219 tons of sulfur dioxide and 3554 tons of nitrogen dioxide per year will not be exceeded.

A clean solution for the environment and the region.
