New Construction Project Block 6
Cutting edge technology, maximum efficiency: Staudinger block 6
With the new power block at the Staudinger site, E.ON Kraftwerke will be setting new standards, both technically and economically. A steam power plant with maximum efficiency is plannend for the next generation.
| Fuel | Hard coal |
| Electrical Output | 1,100 MW (gross) |
| District Heating | up to 300 MW |
| Steam Parameters | 600°C/620°C/285 bar |
| Efficiency | > 45 percent |
The new power plant block will be created as a joint venture power station of E.ON Kraftwerke and Hanover Municipal Utilities (the latter with a 12.6 percent share).
How much power - how much coal?
The new block 6 will be a good deal more efficient than the old power plants. That is to say, it will need less hard coal to generate the same amount of electricity. There will not only be less drain on valuable resources but production will also be more cost-effective. We are therefore confident that the new, modern power plant will give us a greater total electrical output than we have today. Depending on the competition and demand, it will be possible to raise production capacity from the current 5.5 billion megawatt hours per year to 10 billion kilowatt hours per year.
This will be accompanied by growing coal consumption. Whereas in past years, two million tons of coal on average were combusted by the Staudinger power plant per year, after block 6 commissioned, we will probably need three to 3.5 million tons of coal per year.
