History

Hans Staudinger, founder of the power plant

Site with tradition

The history of the Staudinger power plant began in 1963 with the laying of the foundation stone for the first two blocks. They each had a capacity of 249 Megawatt and went on line in 1965. With the growing demand for power, the power plant was expanded step by step in the following years: block 3 was completed in 1970. Block 4, the only gas-fired block on the site, followed in 1977. The most recent block to be completed (block 5) went on line in the fall of 1992.

A power plant has a limited service life. Blocks 1 to 3 will have reached the end of their technical and economical lives in 2012 and will then be switched off. But there is still to be a future for the Staudinger site. The old plants are planned to be superseded by a new, modern power plant: block 6.
